Mr. Wahjudi Wardojo was born in Tuban, Indonesia in 1950. He graduated in forestry from University of Gadjah Mada, Indonesia, and Michigan State University, East Lansing, USA, for his master degree. After his retirement from the Ministry of Forestry, he currently serves as a Senior Advisor for International Forest Carbon Policy, The Nature Conservancy (TNC), Jakarta. In this position he works closely with the TNC’s International Climate Policy Team at international, regional, and national level and advices TNC in developing the Forest Carbon Program in Berau in particular and Indonesia Program in general.

Since 2000 he was entrusted to hold high-level policy making positions in the Indonesian Ministry of Forestry. In 2001-2005 he was Ministry’s Secretary General. He was also Director General of Forest Protection and Nature Conservation, Director General of Forestry Research and Development Agency (FORDA) as well as Special Advisor and Secretary of the Minister. Prior to these assignments, he was assigned as the Forestry Attaché at the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo (1997-1999).

He has vast international experiences in the field of forestry, forest-related and conservation activities. He was one of initiators in establishing the Forest Law Enforcement and Governance (FLEG) – Asia Pacific in cooperation with the World Bank, and Asia Forest Partnership (AFP) in collaboration with the Government of Japan as well as International Forest Decentralization Initiative in collaboration with Government of Switzerland and several agencies. He had also been a member of the World Commission on Protected Areas (IUCN). He was a member of Advisory Committee for Director General of UNESCO on Biosphere Reserve (2002-2005), Board of Trustees for Centre of International Forestry Research (CIFOR 2006-2009) and led Indonesian delegation to a number of international forestry-related meetings, eg. UNFCCC, UNFF, UNCBD, IUCN and FAO. Mr. Wardojo was Chairman of the ASEAN Senior Officials on Forestry (ASOF) in 2006.

Further, his national forestry activities have also been widely acknowledged by Indonesian NGOs. He served as the Vice Chairman of Indonesian Man and Biosphere Program, a member of Board of Trustee of LATIN Indonesia and a member of Board of Trustees of Bird Life Indonesia and was entrusted as the Chairman of Indonesia Forestry Scout. Dealing with forest climate-related activity he was a lead person of Indonesia Forest Climate Alliance (IFCA 2007-2008), a forum under the Ministry of Forestry worked with various stakeholders in preparing Indonesia readiness on REDD.
