Mr. Bey Soo Khiang was appointed Vice-Chairman of RGE in March 2011. He was a former Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) overseas scholar who graduated from University of Cambridge with Bachelor of Arts (1st Class Honours). While serving in the SAF, Soo Khiang made significant contributions in transforming the RSAF into a modern and advanced air force as Chief of Air Force, before he was promoted to the rank of Lt General and appointed the Chief of Defence Force (“CDF”) from 1995-2000. He played an instrumental role in defence diplomacy, strengthening and expanding ties between the SAF and other armed forces around the world. While serving as the CDF, he was also appointed as a member of the Board of Directors for Singapore Technologies Engineering and Singapore Airlines Limited.

In 2000, Soo Khiang then joined Singapore Airlines (SIA) as Executive Vice President Technical and was promoted to Senior EVP Technical & Human Resources two years later. In his tenure with SIA, he took charge of various key business areas. He also led the project to introduce the world first super jumbo, the A380, into SIA which has helped consolidate SIA’s position as one of the world’s leading airline in spite of challenges in a highly competitive and complex airline industry. During his time with SIA, he was also appointed Chairman of SIA Cargo Pte Ltd, Chairman of Silkair Pte Ltd, Chairman of Singapore Flying College, Board Director of SIA Engineering Company, Virgin Atlantic Limited and Virgin Atlantic Airways Limited & Virgin Travel Group Limited. Soo Khiang is still an active Board member in the Sentosa Development Corporation.

Soo Khiang holds a Masters in Arts (Engineering) from University of Cambridge and a Masters in Public Administration from Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. He also attended the Advanced Management Program at the Harvard Business School .
